Prudhoe Bay. Containers are oil spill response supplies. The bumps on the horizon in the middle of the bay are the Northstar drilling pad and the seawater treatment plant. They built these in the winter by digging a hole in the ice and simply pouring in truckloads of gravel. Our guide pointed out that the driftwood present would probably have come down the Mackenzie river from deep inside Canada since there are no trees on the northslope.
