Headlines -- Lava Takes a Pause

"The northwest edge of the perched lava channel is seen Friday looking toward the upper end of the first pool. The surface of the lava pool was crusted and stationary. Lava is fed into the perched channel at the base of the wall in the background."

On this trip, there was no lava flowing into the ocean. Rather it was pooling. It was impossible to legally get within a couple miles of this location because of the unpredictability of this state. (The rim of the pools can break at any time sending lava in almost any direction.)
