South Point - Ancient Hawaiian Canoe Moorings

According to the guide book (Big Island Revealed - A. Doughty) these holes were moorings were used by ancient fishermen to tie their boats while fishing. The bottom drops so rapidly here that you can't use anchors. So they carved these holes in the lava
