This was as close as we were able to get to glowing lava. This is the glow from the pooling lava at Pu'u O'o Crater 5-7 miles up-slope. On our visit, the lava was in an "episode" where it was not flowing to the ocean, but rather "perched" behind lava dams. This makes it too dangerous to get near. Nevertheless, we were thrilled to be able to see anything.
