The Wooden Boat

...and one of those wonderful handmade wooden boat that were so stable and great for fishing. Most were painted dark green, as I remember. Fred had a 'fleet' of them when I was a child.

1930s: Baby Nancy (or Bob?) Martin being weighed.

Wanda Martin

Wanda Martin was the only other Wanda I knew as I was growing up. She was my uncle, Roy Phillips', next door neighbor at the lake. I remember her as a warm and fun person.

-Wanda (Hoover) Taylor, now owning the cottage 3 lots west of the Martin/Black cottage.

living at the lake

My name is Butch Hetherton my family owned a cabin on the lake from 1958 thru 1979. My first trip there was june 1953. the year I was born and continued until 1972 when I moved to Florida. I remember Marc and his sister machel. and all of the Knight brothers. We lived in New York state. I spent my teen summers at the lake with marc and his sister.

Did you get them

Vivian and Randy,

I am wondering if you did received the pictures I sent you by e-mail today. Those are pictures of the Knights brothers. Thanks again for letting me download your pictures of Lac Pemichangan. Buy the way, the "Big Island" has been named "Ile Chantigny"(Chantigny Island) in honor of the family that has been living for years on that island. One member of the Chantigny family still lives there on his ancestors' farm.

Aaron's shed and garage still standing

Hi Randy, Vivian:

I think Aaron (and his brother CJ) would be pleased to note that Pierre and Lisa Isabelle, who bought his grandfather's place, have invested money and TLC into restoring the old log ice shed and car shed built by his grandfather. The cottage was a classic, but nature was reclaiming it.

Wanda's cottage (across from Trepanier's) has been nicely taken care of and is a great example of classic early cottage!

Pemichangan is a great place - let's keep it that way!

Hello, Randy. I know your family but I think you know my sister Betsy much better than you do me. I have been to the lake all but 2 summers of my life. I am heading there again in a couple of days and my wife thought of doing a search and found your site. I really can not describe how much I enjoyed the pictures that you posted here. I knew quite a few of the people that are in them including the McPherson's, Westfall's, Knight's, Lamborn's, and Fraser's. I also knew Aaron (who left a note here earlier) and his mother and grandparents. The Bingman's used to rent from Berman next to our place before they bought the cottage that they had next to the Isabelle's. Cal (and others including Berman, Arthur, & Jock Knight, Skip Humphrey, and me for that matter) worked with my dad to build our place.

On a current note, there was a big storm at the lake a few days ago that brought down many trees and caused a fair amount of damage all over the area. Power has been out for days and no one can say...

I have a number of pictures from the 60's and 70's if you might be interested in expanding your gallery. You can E-mail me at goldsberry7@sbcglobal.net.

CALVIN AND RUTH BINGMAN

I DONT KNOW IF IV EVER MET YOU, BUT MY NAME IS AARON, IM THE GRANDSON OF CAL AND RUTH BINGMAN AND THE SON OF LINDA BINGMAN. THEY HAD A COTTAGE 4 DOORS NORTH OF YOURS... ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FRAZERS COTTAGE. IT HAS SINCE BEEN TORN DOWN, AND REBUILT BY THE NEIGHBORS WHO OWN THE PROPERTY NOW. OUT OF CURIOSITY I WANTED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY GOOGLE ENTRIES ON THE INTERNET, AND I DISCOVERED YOUR SITE. THE NAMES RANG A BELL, OFTEN WOULD HERE MY MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER MAKE MENTION OF THE BLACK'S COTTAGE.

My name is Serge Laberge originally from Hull but now living in Québec city. My mother's name is Suzanne Knight born and raise in Lac Ste-Marie. She is the daughter of Francis knight who is one of the 12 Knight's brother. All these brothers are the sons of Joe Knight.

I really aappreciate looking at these pictures because I consider this area as one of the most beautiful in the utaouais region.

It was a pleasure to see the pictures of my Great Grandfather Joe.
